How Can I Get My Duplicate PAN Card?
PAN card: PAN card refers to the Permanent Account Number, which is code that acts as the identification numbers to all the Indians. PAN card was especially designed for those who pay Income Tax. The code of the PAN card is unique for all. The length of this code is 10 digits which has both the alpha and numeric characters in it. This card is issued by the Indian Income Tax Department under the supervision of the CBDT. It also functions as an important proof of identification.
Problems with PAN card: in case the PAN card is lost or stolen, a person should immediately report about it to the nearest police station and file a FIR. It is also mandatory to have a photocopy of the same, for further assistance or checking, if conducted by the authority. Apart from this, people also face the problem like broken PAN card, for that case, one should have a photocopy of the original card, which will be required during the application procedure for the issue of duplicate PAN card. There are chances of modifications also which includes name change or address change, etc., for that also, the photocopy of the older one is required.
Application procedure: in case of lost or stolen PAN cards, one should visit the nearest income tax department to obtain a form named 49A. The applicant just have to fill this new form and attest the photocopy of the identity proof and address evidences along with the photocopy of the FIR. However, there is a slight change for those whose card is broken or damaged. These people should fill the form 49A and attest the required documents like the identity and address proof along with the photocopy of the original PAN card. Lastly for those who want some modification in PAN card should also fill the application form along with the changes and attest the documents that provide the evidence for the change and submit it to the designated authority.
Fees and processing time: as per the government rules and regulations the total fee required to issue a duplicate PAN card is 106 INR, which includes the processing fee of 93 INR plus 14% service tax, applicable by the government. The fees can be paid via demand draft, credit card or debit card and even by net banking. The processing time normally include 15 days which gets extended up to 20 days due to some reasons. After 15 days one can a brand new PAN card in hand.
